研究人员在报告中指出:“心脏衰竭仍然是心脏病死亡率的主要原因,目前最好的治疗方法这种是植入心室辅助装置或心脏移植手术,但可供移植的心脏数量是有限的。在心脏病发作期间,流入心脏的血液停止,缺少氧气的一部分心肌死亡。心脏肌肉不再生,相反,取代坏死组织疤痕的细胞是不帮助心脏泵的成纤维细胞,心脏功能逐渐减弱,严重心脏病患者常出现热衰竭。”

“我们实验室一直致力于通过研究参与心脏发育和再生的途径来开发治愈心肌的新方法,在这项研究中,我们调查了河马通路,在之前的研究中,我们已经证明河马通路防止成人心肌细胞增殖和再生。”

在此次试验中,研究人员模仿人类严重的心脏衰竭设计了小鼠模型,他们复制小鼠心脏损伤的严重阶段,并抑制河马通路。六个星期后,研究人员观察到,受伤的心已经开始恢复,泵功能水平得到控制。研究人员认为关闭河马通路的影响是双重的。一方面,它诱发心肌细胞增殖和生存,另一方面,它带来纤维化的变更。动物试验的成功使研究人员倍感信心,接下来,将开始招募人体试验参与者,进一步证明此法对抗人类心脏衰竭的有效性和安全性。

新的研究已经发现了一种潜在的手段来触发受损的心脏细胞自愈。这一发现可能导致开创性的心脏病治疗形式。研究人员第一次发现了一种长期的非编码核糖核酸(ncRNA),它调节控制心脏细胞进行修复或再生能力的基因。研究人员命名为“Singheart”的这种新型RNA可能是未来治疗心力衰竭的靶点。这一发现是由新加坡基因组研究所(GIS)和国立大学卫生系统(NUHS)共同完成的,现已发表在自然通讯。
