美国犹他大学Huntsman癌症研究所（HCI）的研究人员试图通过一种新的癌细胞靶向机制来改善多发性骨髓瘤治疗的深度和持久性。

激活患者自身免疫系统以抵抗癌症的免疫疗法已被证明对多种类型的血液癌症非常有效。在CAR-T细胞疗法中，医生从病人的血液中获取T细胞，然后通过附加的CAR识别并攻击癌细胞。尽管这种方法对某些患者已显示出明显效果，但许多患者仅经历了短暂的改善，随后疾病复发。美国犹他大学Huntsman癌症研究所（HCI）的研究人员试图通过一种新的癌细胞靶向机制来改善多发性骨髓瘤治疗的深度和持久性。

HCI的科学家开发了靶向CD229分子的CAR-T细胞疗法，CD229分子在整个疾病过程中都存在于骨髓瘤患者的癌细胞中。更重要的是，CD229也存在于骨髓瘤干细胞中，骨髓干细胞则是复发患者中具有治疗抵抗力的肿瘤细胞的来源。小鼠模型和来自患者的肿瘤细胞的实验室测试显示了新型CAR-T疗法的显著效果。
