研究表明，II型糖尿病(T2DM)与牙周炎密切相关。这篇研究的目的是为了检测日本老龄人群口腔就诊情况与糖尿病之间的联系。研究共选取了年龄在75-80岁之间经过全身健康检查的14，551志愿者进行分析。依据牙科治疗数据，对3个牙科就诊情况的独立变量进行调查分析，包括：是否接受牙科治疗、牙科治疗的类型(未就诊、牙周治疗或其他牙科治疗)以及牙周治疗时间(0， 1-4， 或者≥5天)。通过多变量逻辑和线性回归分析检验牙科就诊情况与糖尿病之间的联系。结果显示，接受牙周治疗的受试者其T2DM的多变量比值比(OR)要显著低于未接受牙科治疗的受试者(0.74， 95%置信区间： 0.66-0.82)。在不考虑治疗天数的情况下，接受牙周治疗的受试者其T2DM的OR值明显降低。多变量线性回归模型显示，接受牙周治疗与A1c下降存在显著的关联性(P <0.05)。结论：在日本老年人群中，牙科就诊接受牙周治疗患者的糖尿病情况要好于未接受牙周治疗的患者。原始出处：Saito M， Shimazaki Y， et al.
