研究人员在研究中展示了一个来源于病人的前列腺特异性细菌,CP1,结合抗PD-1免疫治疗方法,能够在正位的MYC-和PTEN突变的前列腺癌模型中增加生存且减少肿瘤负担。CP1在尿道内特异性定殖并且能够在肿瘤上增殖,还不引起任何全身性的毒性。另外,CP1能够增加癌细胞、T细胞毒性、引起肿瘤浸润的激活的CD8 T细胞、Th17 T细胞、成熟树突细胞、M1巨噬细胞和NK细胞的免疫原性细胞的死亡。CP1同样能够减少肿瘤内调节T细胞和VEGF的免疫原性细胞的死亡。

最后,研究人员指出,从浸润的肿瘤中阻断CP1招募的T细胞能够抑制它的治疗效果。CP1是一个免疫治疗工具,并且阐释了组织特异性微生物是怎样能够增加肿瘤免疫原性以及如何使一种治疗抗性癌症类型对免疫治疗重新敏感。
