昨日,有“科学界奥斯卡”之称的“科学突破奖”(Breakthrough Prize)揭晓了2018年的获奖名单,5名科学家摘得“生命科学突破奖”(Breakthrough Prizes in Life Sciences)的桂冠。

昨日,有“科学界奥斯卡”之称的“科学突破奖”(Breakthrough Prize)揭晓了2018年的获奖名单,5名科学家摘得“生命科学突破奖”(Breakthrough Prizes in Life Sciences)的桂冠。

科学突破奖是一项全球性的科学奖项,由谷歌共同创始人Sergey Brin、俄罗斯企业家Yuri Milner与Julia Milner夫妇、Facebook共同创始人Mark Zuckerberg及Priscilla Chan夫妇、23andMe共同创始人Anne Wojcicki、以及腾讯首席执行官马化腾共同创立。在诸多企业家的资助下,科学突破奖的单项奖金高达300万美元,为科学类奖项之最。科学突破奖的创始人们也希望能通过这一大奖,表彰全世界最顶尖的科学家们。



今年共有5位科学家荣获生命科学突破奖。他们为理解生命系统、延长人类寿命做出了革命性的贡献。

Salk研究所 / HHMI



她发现了植物从阳光和阴影中提取信息的分子机制,理解它们如何在光合作用中调控茎和叶子的生长

加州大学圣地亚哥分校



他阐明了一类遗传性肌萎缩性脊髓侧索硬化症(ALS)的分子病理,以及神经胶质细胞在神经退行过程中扮演的作用。此外,他也在动物模型中建立了针对ALS和亨廷顿病的反义寡核苷酸疗法。

Kim Nasmyth

牛津大学



他阐明了细胞分裂过程中染色体分离的复杂机制,从而能帮助预防包括癌症在内的许多遗传性疾病。

京都大学



他阐明了未折叠的蛋白质反应,细胞质量控制系统,并阐述了细胞纠正措施的方法。

他们阐明了未折叠蛋白反应(unfolded protein response)。这是一种细胞的质量控制系统,能探测到导致疾病的未折叠蛋白,并让细胞采取纠正措施。

“科学突破奖的创立是为了表彰那些帮助我们理解世界的生命科学家、物理学家、以及数学家,” Facebook共同创始人Mark Zuckerberg说道:“世界需要他们的灵感。他们提醒我们,尽管并不容易被感觉到,但我们正在稳定进步,为所有人打造一个更好的未来。”
