眼科领域的代谢组学研究主要侧重于确定特定视网膜疾病特征代谢物的浓度。质谱(MS)和核磁共振(NMR)光谱学的研究表明,与对照个体相比,患有视网膜疾病的个体具有明显不同的代谢特征,这支持代谢物可以用作特定条件下易识别的生物标志物的观点。然而,由生物标志物研究而产生的代谢组学的新兴分支,涉及视网膜代谢功能紊乱研究,认为代谢功能紊乱是视网膜退化的原因。
