很大程度上可同时模仿骨骼的解剖结构、力学性能和传导特性的多孔生物材料目前报道极少。在这项研究中,研究人员基于四种不同类型的三重周期性极小表面(TPMS)合理设计,并采用增材制造(AM)法制备了多孔金属生物材料,对骨性能的模仿达到了前所未有的多物理学精细水平。

使用选择性激光熔化(SLM)钛合金(Ti-6Al-4V)进行合理设计和制造了16种不同类型的多孔生物材料。然后表征所制备的生物材料的解剖结构、静态力学性质、抗疲劳性和渗透性。

结果显示,就解剖结构而言,生物材料类似于小梁骨的形态特征,包括平均表面曲率接近于零。生物材料的性能良好,且同时具有相对较低的弹性特性和较高的屈服强度。这两种性能可避免应力屏蔽,同时为骨组织再生和骨整合提供充足的机械支持。

此外,与目前研发的其他耐疲劳极限达到其屈服(或平台)压力20%的AM多孔生物材料相比,,而目前研究中开发的一些生物材料显示出极高的抗疲劳性,耐力限制高达60%的屈服压力。还发现,对于所开发的生物材料所测量的渗透性值在所报道的小梁骨的范围内。

综上所述,本研究所研发的基于TPMS的多孔金属生物材料在很大程度上模拟了小梁骨的解剖结构、力学和物理性质。这些特性使得它们成为骨科植入物和/或骨代用生物材料的潜在选择。
