培养与使用计算机工具相关的技能对于实践基因组病理学至关重要。然而,考虑到基因组学教育的相对新颖性,住院医生项目可能缺乏具有足够专业知识和/或时间实施培训的教员。基于虚拟团队学习(TBL)的环境将使更多的受训者能够接受基因组病理学教育。研究团队将广泛实施的TBL基因组病理学研讨会转化为虚拟环境,并评估知识和技能的获取。

研究人员利用一种新颖的互动模拟方法,开发了在线模块,将TBL经验的各个方面转化为虚拟环境,目的是获得必要的计算机相关技能。这些模块在10个研究生病理学培训项目中进行了评估,研究人员使用的是一种参与者身份不明的事后测试设计。后模组匿名调查获得参与者对模组质量和效能的反馈。

研究显示,147名学员收到电子邮件要求自愿参与研究。其中,43名学员完成了前测,15名学员(35%)随后完成了后测。前测总分为45%,后测总分为70% (P < .001;效果大小= 1.4)。在测试知识获取和技能的问题上,后测结果的改善是相似的。对于参与调查的19名参与者,18(95%)会向其他人推荐这些模块,并认为他们达到了既定的目标。

研究表明,这种基于模拟的方法可使病理学学员获得计算机相关技能,以参与实践基因组病理学。未来的工作可以探索在非自愿设置和适应不同的专业、学习者和计算机工具的有效性。
