到目前为止，还没有研究对隐裂牙齿直接行根管治疗的效果进行长期观察评估的报道。这篇研究的目的是评估1家私人诊所25年间对隐裂牙齿直接行根管治疗术后1年的疗效及分布情况。研究共检测了3038颗隐裂牙齿，数据共来自于2086名独立患者。记录所有患者的牙髓和牙周诊断、治疗年限、牙齿类型、修复材料和检查时复原表面的数量。同样，也记录牙周探诊深度。回顾性的添加所有有记录数据患者的年龄和性别。对所有检测变量进行单变量频率分布分析。对说明变量和根管治疗成功之间进行双变量关联性分析。研究在所有独立患者中共观察了2086颗隐裂牙。最常见的为下颌第二磨牙(36%)，其次为下颌第一磨牙(27%)，再次为上颌第一磨牙(18%)。在适合进行多变量回归分析的363颗牙齿中，有296颗被认为术后1年治疗成功。基于牙髓诊断（不可逆牙髓炎85%；牙髓坏死80%；治疗过的牙齿74%）、患者年龄、性别、牙齿类型、修复材料和检查时复原表面的数量之间的治疗成功率没有显著差异。双变量分析中存在3个具有最显著性差异的因素为：袋深、远中边缘嵴隐裂和牙周诊断，它们是用来产生隐裂牙齿直接行根管治疗术后成功率的预后指数，叫做Iowa 分期指
