公共场合禁烟的立法降低了二手烟的暴露和心血管疾病风险，然而，其是否会降低血压尚不清楚。本研究纳入了CARDIA 临床研究中的2606名不吸烟的对象，经过平均15年时间的随访，混合效应模型估计了禁烟政策与血压和高血压的关联。分析结果显示，禁烟政策与收缩压的改变呈相关性，居住在禁烟地区的居民的收缩压较居住在无禁烟政策地区的更低，餐馆和酒吧的禁烟政策分别与收缩压降低0.85 (1.61，0.09) 和1
