我们身体中的器官和组织是由大量细胞构成的，这些细胞相互作用调节身体功能，维持健康，然而，在衰老的细胞和早期癌症患者的细胞中却发现了一些相同的 “异常” 细胞。

研究捕获了不断增多的 “衰老” 细胞，它们影响着组织的功能，当衰老细胞增殖失败时，它们会试图与邻近的细胞沟通，而沟通的途径主要是释放炎症蛋白质。发表于《细胞报告》的研究中， 描述了衰老细胞交流的方法是通过整合素膜蛋白，其中包括一种在衰老细胞中高度表达的 “整合素β3” 蛋白质。

研究人员表示，“这是整合素β3 首次证明在老化过程中的角色，这一研究为今后治疗早期癌症和老化的治疗贡献一份力量。”
