尽管靶向疗法已被批准用于含有BRAF基因突变的黑色素瘤和肺癌的治疗，然而这种方法往往会导致细胞生长信号级联反应的过度活跃，从而导致大多数患者对这些治疗产生耐药性。为了防止耐药性的发生，北卡罗来纳大学和其他机构的研究人员对MK-8353化合物进行了研究，试图阻断细胞生长的下游信号，如ERK信号通路，来达到抵御耐药性的目的。

结果显示，15例患者中有3例对MK-8353治疗有反应。研究人员指出，尽管反应率较低，但这种反应率与其他治疗（如MEK抑制剂）研究中的反应率相似，因此不同机理药物的联合使用有可能提供更高的反应率。
