研究人员通过邮件或者电话采访收集了从1932年到1994年并且在纽约进行治疗的成年RB幸存者的综合调查问卷。问卷改编自儿童癌症幸存者研究（Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, CCSS）。

社会心理结果包括了心理上的苦恼、焦虑、抑郁、躯体症状、对癌症复发的恐惧、对面部容貌的满意度、创伤后生长和创伤后应激综合征；未患癌症CCSS的兄弟姐妹被作为对照组。共有470名RB幸存者和2820名CCSS兄弟姐妹参与此次研究，在研究时的两组平均年龄分别为43.3和33.2岁。经过社会人口因素的校正，RB幸存者相对于对照组并没有显著的更高比例的出现抑郁、躯体症状、苦恼或者焦虑。尽管RB幸存者有着更高的报道创伤后应激综合征的可能性，但是经过研究发现470人中只有5人符合创伤后应激综合征的条件。在幸存者中，有慢性医疗情况但是并不增加心理问题的可能性。双侧RB幸存者比单侧幸存者更有可能出现对癌症复发的恐惧，并且担心自己的子女也会被诊断出RB。但是两侧的RB幸存者并不比单侧患者更多报道抑郁、焦虑或者躯体症状。

此次研究表明，大多数RB幸存者的社会心理功能并不比未患癌症者差。此外，双侧和单侧RB幸存者似乎患心理综合征的情况相似。
