在这项工作中，研究人员通过SiO2-CaO-Na2O-Al2O3玻璃粉末的烧结结晶在氧化铝砖上制造含硅灰石（CaSiO3）的玻璃-陶瓷涂层。粘合强度从34MPa降低至10MPa。涂层厚度从50微米增加到300微米。从粘合强度的观点来看，厚度低于250μm的涂层被认为适合于根据现行国际标准的生物医学应用。

基于量子化断裂力学的力学模型允许基于拉伸试验的实验数据估计涂层的断裂韧性。随着涂层厚度的增加，临界应变能释放率也从1.86降至0.10 J/m2，因此在确定材料的力学性能方面起着关键作用。
