一项III期随机临床试验证明，大麻二酚的药物制剂联合其他抗癫痫药物有助于减少对先前治疗无反应的Lennox-Gastaut综合征患者的癫痫发作次数，包括由于肌张力突然减退而引发的癫痫发作。

大约1-4%的儿童癫痫病例是由Lennox-Gastaut综合征引起的，这种终身性严重的综合征涉及多种癫痫类型和认知障碍。目前虽然有一系列药物和非药物（如神经刺激和脑外科手术）等治疗方法，但这些方法只能帮助10%的患者控制癫痫的发作。

尽管在这项为期14周的临床试验中，大麻二酚的确减少了癫痫发作的频率，但大麻二酚药物制剂长期使用的有效性和安全性以及与其他抗癫痫药物的相互作用仍有待进一步研究。

该项临床试验的主要完成人，美国马萨诸塞州综合医院的Elizabeth Thiele博士说：“Lennox-Gastaut综合征患者急需新的治疗选择，我们的研究有可能找到了一种额外的治疗选择来减少癫痫发作，我们的研究结果表明，使用大麻二酚作为其他抗癫痫药物的附加疗法可能会显著降低Lennox-Gastaut综合征患者的癫痫发作频率，这对于那些先前治疗无反应的Lennox-Gastaut综合征患者是积极正面的消息。”
