研究者Miranda Hunter表示，胞吞作用可以移除损伤和非损伤细胞之间的连接，从而使得非损伤的细胞移动并且眼神至损伤区域从而关闭损伤细胞区域。胞吞作用可以通过指挥一种名为“袋状”（ purse string）的结构的形成，来促进和关闭伤口的非损伤细胞的运动方式相协调，而“袋状”结构可以围绕伤口进行组装并且快速收缩牵引周围细胞关闭伤口。

胚胎中的伤口愈合非常快，而且通常会很少形成伤疤或炎症；研究者希望通过理解胚胎伤口愈合的机制来将其转化成为有效的临床疗法来诱导成体细胞进入伤口区域进行伤口修复。文章中研究人员利用果蝇的胚胎作为人类胚胎的模型系统进行研究，果蝇通常用于遗传性研究，因为其和人类拥有较多相似的特质，而且果蝇研究代价较低且可以快速繁殖，从而可以在短时间内促进研究者们对其进行研究。

研究者Rodrigo Fernandez-Gonzalez指出，本文研究中我们鉴别出了胚胎干细胞进行伤口损伤修复的分子机制，该研究揭示了细胞如何以一种协调的方式进行运动，从而帮助我们理解伤口愈合的过程，相关研究或许也为解释癌症转移以及胚胎的发育提供了新的线索。
