由此可见，在儿童早期和青春期测量的TL与14岁时的CIMT之间存在显著的相关性，表明端粒长度是生物学标志物，甚至是晚期心血管风险的早期决定因素。

颈动脉内膜中层厚度（CIMT）是亚临床动脉粥样硬化的标志，与成人心血管风险相关。端粒长度（TL）是细胞衰老的标志。近日，心血管领域权威杂志International Journal of Cardiology上发表了一篇研究文章，在一项基于社区的队列研究中，研究人员试图明确儿童早期和/或14岁时TL是否与青春期的CIMT之间存在相关性。

在社区为基础的儿童哮喘预防研究中，118名儿童在平均年龄为3.6岁时测量了TL，其中165名儿童在14岁时测量了TL和CIMT。

经过分析，研究人员发现儿童早期的TL与14岁时的CIMT之间呈显著负相关，p=0.04。青少年期间的TL也与14岁时的CIMT之间呈显著的负相关，p=0.03。然而，在调整了儿童早期的TL后，后者的相关性不再显著。

由此可见，在儿童早期和青春期测量的TL与14岁时的CIMT之间存在显著的相关性，表明端粒长度是生物学标志物，甚至是晚期心血管风险的早期决定因素。
