研究发现,在Alt诱导的哮喘小鼠模型中,Par缺失对肺功能、炎症和细胞因子的产生没有负面影响。Alt诱导的细胞因子在气道上皮细胞中的产生在Par2-KO小鼠中也于WT细胞没有显著的差异。一致的,PAR2在人类细胞中的敲除同样对细胞因子的表达没有影响。与之相反,合成的PAR2拮抗剂或者其他哮喘相关过敏原(比如蟑螂提取物)诱导的细胞因子的表达却通过PAR2依赖的机制进行调控。最后,研究人员发现EGFR途径对Alt诱导的上皮细胞因子表达有关。

最后,研究人员指出,EGFR的激活而非PAR2,很可能驱使了Alt诱导的气道炎症和上皮细胞因子的产生。
