近日,来自英国牛津大学的研究人员利用果蝇揭开了介导男性生殖衰老的机制以及射精与寿命之间潜在联系的神秘面纱。他们发现,精子和精液在数量上和质量上都受到年龄的影响,它们对老年雄性的生殖能力下降也有不同的影响。在交配活动不变的情况下,精子产生随年龄增长按时间顺序递减。因此,交配频繁的年老雄性不育的主要原因是精子转移减少和活性降低。同时,通过人工干预可以延缓男性生殖衰老。相关成果发表在《PNAS》上。

具体来说,研究人员分别对果蝇进行了无交配和频繁交配的实验后发现,雄性生育功能随年龄增长而下降,但这种作用高度依赖于雄性的性活动。频繁交配的年老雄性后代较少,而且更可能不育;而无交配行为的年老雄性精子竞争能力也很差,但与年轻雄性相比,他们的生殖能力和生育能力并未显着降低。以上研究结果表明,频繁交配是导致男性年龄依赖性生殖衰退的重要因素。

生殖能力随男性年龄和交配活动而下降

更有意思的是,研究人员发现年龄和交配活动也会影响无精子雄性促使伴侣产卵的能力。也就是说,除了精子,精浆恶化也会导致与年龄相关的生殖能力下降。
