糖尿病影响了全球超过4.6亿成年人,是世界第七大致残原因,仅在美国就占到了3200多亿美元的医疗保健费用。

在过去的三十年里,东亚和南亚的糖尿病发病率,主要是Ⅱ型糖尿病(T2D)的发病率上升速度特别快。Ⅱ型糖尿病是由胰岛素分泌不足或胰岛素抵抗引起的血糖水平升高,目前人无法治愈。

随着我国人口老龄化和生活方式的改变,糖尿病是从少见病变成常见病和多发病。我国Ⅱ型糖尿病患病率从1980年的0.67%骤升至2013年的10.4%,也就是说每 10 人中就有 1 位糖尿病患者。

7月21日发表在《内分泌学会杂志》(Journal of the Endocrine Society)上的一项新研究显示,肉桂能改善糖尿病前期患者的血糖控制,并可延缓Ⅱ型糖尿病的发展。

据估计,美国有近9000万人患有糖尿病前期,即血糖水平高于正常水平时,通常会导致Ⅱ型糖尿病。确定预防从糖尿病前期发展为Ⅱ型糖尿病的策略具有挑战性,但对很多人来说非常重要。

马萨诸塞州波士顿乔斯林糖尿病中心的医学博士、该研究的通讯作者Giulio R. Romeo表示:“我们12周的研究显示,在饮食中添加肉桂对于保持糖尿病前期患者的血糖水平稳定是有益的。这些发现为更长期、更大规模的研究提供了依据。”

随机临床试验调查了51名糖尿病前期患者补充肉桂的效果。参与者在12周内每天服用三次500毫克的肉桂胶囊或安慰剂。两组之间的平均空腹血糖值(FPG)差异约为5毫克/分升,这是本研究的主要结果指标。在6周时FPG没有变化,这是三个预先指定的次要终点之一。我们的数据是一致的,并扩展了Roussel等人的研究结果。

与我们的试验类似,在补充12周后观察到对FPG的影响,但在6周时没有观察到。值得注意的是,我们更大规模的研究招募了符合任何糖尿病前期标准的参与者,从而将这些发现的相关性扩大到更大的人群中。

总之,研究人员发现,肉桂补充剂降低了异常的空腹血糖水平,改善了身体对含碳水化合物食物的反应,而碳水化合物是糖尿病前期的标志。肉桂耐受良好,与特定的副作用或不良事件无关。

在前期糖尿病前期患者中,12周的肉桂补充剂改善了FPG和葡萄糖耐量,具有良好的安全性。更长期和更大规模的研究应该解决肉桂对前期糖尿病到T2D进展率的影响。
