《自然》子刊:早上接触深红光或可改善视力

每周在早上暴露一次在深红色的光线下,仅需三分钟,就能明显改善视力的下降。

在视网膜的感光细胞中,线粒体的密度是最大的,感光细胞对能量的需求很高。一般而言,视网膜比其他器官衰老得更快,使得ATP减少70%,从而光感受器功能下降。在人40岁左右时,视网膜中的细胞就开始老化,而这种老化的加速部分恰巧是由线粒体造成的,而线粒体的作用是产生能量改善细胞功能的。

在近日的《Scientific Reports》上,刊登了英国UCL研究人员的一项新研究发现,每周在早上暴露一次在深红色的光线下,仅需三分钟,就能明显改善视力的下降。该研究表明每天3分钟的长波深红光照射能够使视网膜中产生了具有能量的线粒体细胞,并能改善人自然衰退的视力。科学家们说,这项研究结果强调深红光的好处,标志着眼睛健康研究的新突破,帮助了全球数百万视力自然下降的人。

这项研究纳入的参与者的年龄都在34~70岁之间,没有眼部疾病,并且具有正常的色觉。使用一个LED设备,20名参与者(13名女性和7名男性)在早上8点和9点之间被暴露在3分钟的670纳米深红光下。然后在三小时后再次测试他们的色觉,其中有10名参与者在一周后又进行了测试。之前对小鼠、大黄蜂和果蝇的研究结果发现:当它们的眼睛暴露在670纳米(长波长)的深红光下时,视网膜的光感受器的功能会有明显的改善。

UCL眼科研究所Glen Jeffery教授认为:"线粒体对长波长光有特殊的敏感性:650~900纳米的长波长可改善线粒体的功能,以提高能量产生。”

最终,研究人员发现,当参与者早上暴露在670纳米(长波长)深红光下3分钟时,他们的色差视力平均提高了17%,这种效果持续了至少一周。然而,当在下午进行同样的测试时,没有看到任何视力改善。

在几个月后(深红光的积极作用已被消散),发现20名参与者中的6人(3名女性和3名男性),当再次测试他们的色觉时,结果显示视力没有改善。

Glen Jeffery教授说,"每周使用一次LED设备,为视网膜细胞中已经下降的能量系统重新充电,就像给电池重新充电一样。而早晨进行照射是实现改善视力下降的关键因素。我们证明了在早晨只需接触一次长波深红光就能明显改善视力下降,这种干预措施将极大地影响老年人的生活质量,并可能减少与视力下降有关的社会成本。"在这项研究中,LED手电筒发出的光能只有8mW/cm2,而不是40mW/cm2。

这项技术简单且安全,670纳米长波光的能量并不比自然环境光中的能量大多少。在不久的将来,每周进行一次三分钟的深红光照射可以在煮咖啡时进行,或者在通勤时进行,这样一个简单的操作可以护理眼睛和改变视力。"
