研究包括了61个烟花爆炸引起的鼓膜穿孔案例。研究人员整理了耳镜,听力测量数据和诊断记录,并将性别、年龄、病因、穿孔大小及耳旁病变归类为独立的变量。研究发现,听力测定数据表明了高频HL(f>2 kHz)要比语音频段(f<1kHz)HL严重的多。与轻度HL(<15dB)相比,中度HL(15-30dB)与穿孔面积(p<0.05, 95%CI)相关,而重度HL(>30dB)同时受穿孔面积和年龄影响(p<0.05, 95%CI)。然而,其他因素,包括性别和疾病耳朵并没有表现出对HL的显著影响。更多的是,Kruskal-Wallis测试结果阐释了0.25 kHz ≤ f ≤?8 kHz频率时的HL与穿孔面积强烈相关(p<0.05, 95% CI)。
