The number of fetuses and newborns to die because of a condition some women develop while pregnant has fallen as doctors perfect their timing in inducing labor, a study found.

Doctors in Norway are inducing deliveries earlier for pregnant women with preeclampsia, a condition marked by high blood pressure and protein in the urine, boosting survival rates, the researchers report today in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Preeclampsia affects as many as 8 percent of all pregnancies.
