8项观察性研究的Meta分析显示，与无叶酸补充相比，补充叶酸先兆子痫的几率显著降低：OR = 0.78（95％CI 0.63,0.98），研究之间具有中度高的异质性。亚组分析显示，与含有多种维生素或与多种维生素一起服用的叶酸相比，叶酸补充剂本身没有明显的亚组差异。

总之，该研究结果表明，低水平证据表明母体叶酸补充与先兆子痫风险降低之间的适度存在一定的关联。未来的研究应区分早发和晚发，轻度与重度先兆子痫，并应控制相关的混杂因素，包括多种维生素补充剂的存在。该系统评价的方案在PROSPERO（CRD42015029310）中进行了前瞻性注册。
