本研究试图研究学童的OW/OB与年龄、性别、生活方式行为和心脏代谢指标之间的关系。在1249名(554万)学龄儿童中进行记录年龄、性别、人体测量和血压值。将OW/OB分别定义为BMI > 85%ile和BMI > 95%ile。通过问卷调查对生活方式行为进行了验证。为168名儿童提供了免费的实验室检测。

2019年4月至9月，对阿根廷4个地区9所小学8.8±2.1岁的小学生进行了调查。265(21.2%)名儿童为OW， 265(21.2%)名儿童为OB， 425(35%)名儿童为中度OB。OW/OB与低牛奶摄入量有关(OR = 1.92；95% CI，1.1-3.3)，不吃早餐(OR = 2.00；95% CI， 1.2-3.4)，有高血压家族史(OR = 1.74；95% CI， 1.1-2.9)，收缩压(OR = 1.03；95%置信区间，1.01 -1.05)；调整混杂变量。亚组分析显示，OW/OB儿童的铁含量(83：94 ug/dl)和HDL-C (43： 47 mg/dl)均低于正常体重儿童，而非HDL-C含量(107：99 mg/dl)高于正常体重儿童。多元logistic回归分析显示，调整混杂变量后，OW/OB与铁呈 (OR = 0.99；95% CI， 0.98-0.998)和HDL-C (OR = 0.94；95% CI，0.91-0.97) 负相关。

研究结果表明，学龄儿童与不健康的生活方式行为、较高的致动脉粥样硬化风险和较低的铁浓度有关，这表明OW/OB儿童患贫血和心脏代谢疾病的风险更高。
