研究发现,在个体研究中,最为常见的调查基因为细胞外基质(ECM)组织相关基因。研究人员对来自于2个基因表达综合(GEO)研究(GSE53868 and GSE12852)的3个绝经前期和2个绝经后期数据集进行了分析;并将与组织修复相关的基因本体(GO)词条(运动紊乱、生物附着、免疫处理和其他)在5个数据库中进行了富集。另外,在3个绝经前数据集中,共表达在案例中要比在对照组中更高。在NHGRI GWAS目录中,在2个或者更多数据集中表达上调的共享的基因丰富了炎症性肠病IBD)相关的基因。另外,ECM相关的基因在差异表达的基因中并没有过度表达。那些与组织再生相关的上调的基因可能反应了旨在修复损伤组织的代偿机制。该过程的不足也许具有不同的成因,包括了年龄相关的基因表达的异常。
