一项发表在《PLOS One》上的新研究发现,相比于每晚睡眠9小时的成年人,每晚睡眠只有6小时的成年人腰围平均多出3厘米。

这是怎么回事呢?英国利兹大学的一个研究团队认为,缺少睡眠会影响新陈代谢以及身体维持健康体重的能力。

研究人员说:“越来越多的证据表明,睡眠不足对代谢疾病有重要影响,比如肥胖,而我们的发现也印证了这一点。”

研究数据来自1615名英国成年人,年龄在19至65岁之间,该研究是全国饮食与营养调查计划的一部分。受测者们要持续4天记录睡眠和饮食情况,以及体重、血压、腰围等数据。

睡眠缺乏除了会导致腰围增加以外,也会使人体重增加:从6小时到9小时,每增加1小时睡眠时间BMI数值会下降0.46千克/平方米。

这些数据还表明,睡眠缺乏和高密度脂蛋白(HDL)胆固醇含量降低之间存在相关性,HDL胆固醇是一种“有益”胆固醇,负责清除血液中的有害胆固醇,并降低心脏病风险。

然而,这项研究并没有发现不健康饮食和睡眠缺乏之间的联系,而过去的一些研究认为二者之间存在关联。

总而言之,越来越多的证据表明,每晚睡7、8、9小时比只睡6个小时要好。研究认为,理想的睡眠时间应该在7至9个小时之间,而具体情况则取决于个人。

研究人员还说,他们的发现可以进一步阐明睡眠和代谢疾病之间的关系,比如糖尿病,根据世界卫生组织的数据,全世界有4.22亿人患有糖尿病

然而,研究团队强调说,这项研究并不是对慢性睡眠问题的长期观察,也不是确定睡眠缺乏是否会导致疾病,而只是粗略地评估一下睡眠时间与不同代谢健康指标之间的关系。

研究人员希望,如果我们能够更好地了解肥胖的起因(比如睡眠不足),那么我们就可以更好地应对肥胖问题和相关的健康问题。

虽然该研究关注了多种代谢测量指标,但是这并不是第一项认为睡眠不足导致肥胖问题的研究。
研究人员之一Greg Potter说:“自从1980年,全世界的肥胖人数已经翻倍。肥胖会导致很多疾病,最常见的是II型糖尿病。弄清楚人们变胖的原因对于公众健康有重要影响。”
