根据第21届欧洲内分泌学大会上发表的一项研究，2型糖尿病患者由于血糖控制不良而出现的低血糖事件能够增加全因痴呆、阿尔茨海默氏症痴呆（AD）和血管性痴呆的患病风险。

根据第21届欧洲内分泌学大会上发表的一项研究，2型糖尿病患者由于血糖控制不良而出现的低血糖事件能够增加全因痴呆、阿尔茨海默氏症痴呆（AD）和血管性痴呆的患病风险。经历过低血糖事件的2型糖尿病患者与未经历过低血糖事件的2型糖尿病患者相比，全因痴呆的风险增加25％、AD风险增加26％、血管性痴呆风险增加28％。

韩国水原市2型Ajou大学医学院的Seung Jin Han博士说：“糖尿病与痴呆风​​险增加有关，但低血糖对痴呆的影响是有争议的。结果证明，我们评估了低血糖对2型糖尿病患者罹患痴呆的影响”。
