慢性肾病（CKD）是目前已知的糖尿病并发症，并且胰岛素抵抗是众所周知的CKD并发症。然而，关于CKD与糖尿病的关联的公布数据尚未达成共识。

台湾国家健康保险研究数据库共确定了15,403名患有CKD的人，以确定他们患有糖尿病的风险，并于没有CKD的15,403名匹配者。使用死亡作为竞争风险的精细和灰色回归模型来计算调整的HR和95％CI，此外，还确定了CKD患者发生糖尿病的危险因素。

结果显示，与非CKD队列相比，CKD队列的糖尿病发病率更高（11.23 / 1000人年与8.93 / 1000人年）。在完全校正的模型中，CKD是发生糖尿病的重要且独立的预测因子（调整后的HR 1.204; 95％CI 1.11,1.31）。CKD对糖尿病事件的影响在三个敏感性分析水平上显示出一致的结果。在CKD队列中，发生糖尿病的重要危险因素包括年龄增长，地理位置，高血压，高脂血症和痛风。其中，高血压与发生糖尿病的风险最高有关（调整后HR 1.682; 95％CI 1.47,1.93）。

研究显示，患有CKD的人发生糖尿病的风险更高。与没有这些特征的人相比，患有CKD和高血压，高脂血症，年龄增长或痛风的人以及生活在台湾某些地区的人更容易患糖尿病作为并发症。
