一项日前发表于《自然—通讯》的研究显示,或许有一天,像水母一样的微小机器人会在人体内游走,把药物送到正确位置。

德国马普学会智能系统研究所的Metin Sitti和同事设计了一种水母机器人。它可以游动、钻挖和运输物体。这种机器人的直径为3毫米,和一只幼年水母差不多大。

机器人由一个中心体和8个可弯曲且能同时上下拍打的垂瓣组成。这些垂瓣每分钟约拍打150次,与幼年水母的速度相似,同时由在水中推进机器人的鳍状肢加以伸展。

机器人的身体里有一个小气泡,可以增加浮力。它的每个垂瓣都由硅橡胶制成,而后者中嵌入了钕铁硼磁性微粒。通过在不同方向和不同速度下施加磁场,Sitti团队可以控制机器人并改变其行为。

例如,这种机器人可钻进一堆珠子里,或者用它的垂瓣把不同尺寸的小珠子从身体中拉出来,并在游动时将它们运送到相应位置。

Sitti介绍说,一个潜在应用是利用这些微小的游泳者携带药物到身体的某些部位。例如,它可以通过导管进入膀胱肿瘤。

这种机器人由能几个月后在体内自然降解并排泄掉的材料制成。不过,Sitti表示,或许还有更廉价、更简单的技术替代品。
