Stem Cell Reports:下调mTOR信号可增加干细胞群的端粒长度

已有的研究显示,减少热量摄入可以延迟并防止与年龄相关的疾病,并延长许多生物的寿命。 这些益处可能是由于热量限制对干细胞功能的积极影响。

最近,研究人员使用涡虫模型Schmidtea mediterranea,一种通过缩小大小来适应长期饥饿的不朽动物,以研究饥饿对端粒长度的影响。 

研究人员表明,最长的端粒是涡虫成体干细胞的一般特征。研究人员还观察到,饥饿导致具有最长端粒的干细胞富集,并且这种富集依赖于mTOR信号传导。 

因此,研究人员提出,饥饿对成体干细胞库复兴的一个重要影响是通过增加体细胞干细胞的中位端粒长度。这种机制对于如何在整个生物体水平上介导饮食对衰老的影响具有广泛的意义。
