血液培养污染是医疗中心面临的一个普遍问题，并造成了巨大的经济损失。一般来说，减少污染的一个可能的方法是丢弃最初的“血液”，因为其中含有皮肤和细菌。本研究确定是否可以通过改变抽取顺序将前7毫升移至金或绿色盖试管中来降低污染血液培养的速度。

本研究对干预前和干预后进行研究。在为期18个月的干预阶段(2015年9月- 2017年2月)，急诊科的所有护士和住院部的抽血师收集血液培养物，首先将第7毫升血液抽取到金或绿色盖管中，然后抽取血液用于血液培养瓶。研究期前18个月(2014年2月- 2015年7月)为对照。

研究结果显示，导流方案组的总体污染率从2.46%下降到导流方案组的1.70%，差异有统计学意义(P < .001)。急诊科抽取的培养物和住院病人培养物显示，在干预前后后组之间，污染率显著降低，急诊科为2.92%比1.95% (P < .001)，住院病人为1.82%比1.31% (P = .03)。同时注意到，与干预前相比，研究期间的月度变化更少。

通过使用这种简单的分流方法，研究发现能够在不增加手术成本的情况下改善急诊部和住院病人的血液培养污染率。
