北京的空气污染比洛杉矶严重得多。研究人员收集了26名不吸烟的洛杉矶健康成年居民(平均年龄23.8岁;(14名女性)2014年和2015年夏季在北京度过10周之前、期间和之后的尿液和血液样本。评估了一组指示脂质过氧化和炎症的循环生物标志物。

在北京时的尿液中4种PAH代谢物的浓度比在洛杉矶时的高176% -800% ((95% CI [103%-276%]-[509%-1780%])。6种脂质过氧化作用生物标志物在北京时的浓度也升高,其中5-、12-和15-羟基二十碳四烯酸与9-和13-二烯酸水平均具有统计学意义,但8-异前列烷没有。在北京时,对氧化酶和芳香基酯酶的抗氧化活性降低,促炎性C反应蛋白和纤维蛋白原的水平升高。当受试者返回洛杉矶后,这些生物指标均呈现相反变化。大多数预后的变化与尿多环芳烃代谢产物有关
