既往研究表明，帕金森病(PD)会导致脑血屏障和/或血-脑脊液(CSF)屏障的损伤，并可增加脑脊液中的尿毒症毒素水平。到目前为止，这些化合物在神经紊乱中的作用尚未完全了解。然而，已经观察到慢性肾脏疾病和神经系统疾病之间存在一定的联系。本研究测量了尿毒症毒素(即硫酸吲哚氧基(IS)、对甲酚硫酸盐(pCS)、对称二甲基精氨酸(SDMA)、不对称二甲基精氨酸(ADMA)、三甲胺n -氧化物(TMAO))在脑脊液和血浆中的浓度，并将其与炎症和氧化应激生物标志物进行了关联。

研究人员收集27名志愿者的血浆和脑脊液样本(18名PD患者和9名对照组)。用液相色谱-串联质谱法测定毒素水平。

研究显示，在PD中，IS和pCS的CSF-plasma ratio更高。PD组脑脊液中pCS浓度高于对照组。血浆中氧化三甲胺水平也较高。患者在脑脊液中有较高的尿毒症毒素，而在血浆中则无。

研究表明，PD患者脑脊液中pCS和IS的水平高于预期，并影响PD的发病机制和进展。
