平价医疗法案(ACA)对急诊科(ED)就诊的根尖周脓肿(PA)的作用还未可知。这篇研究的目的是为了提供全国性的医院ED就诊的PA评估，并检验ACA在ED就诊PAs中的使用情况。研究对2008年至2014年期间的全国性急诊样本(NEDS)进行回顾性分析。选择所有在ED就诊诊断为PA的病例。采用国际疾病分类法、第九次修订-临床修改模式作为鉴定PA的方法。检测患者和医院水平的特征。采用描述性的统计方法总结数据。结果显示，在2008至2014年间，ED就诊共有3，505，633例PA。在研究期间，ED就诊的PA比例显著升高(from 460，260 in 2008 to 545，693 in 2014)。医疗补助为主要付款方式(30.3%)，超过40%未保险。在美国，ED就诊的PA相关平均花费为$1080.50，ED就诊的PA相关总花费为$3.4 billion。ED就诊的与PA相关的住院病例中，平均住院花费为$34，245，总花费为$5.7 billion。结论：口腔健康在卫生保健中依旧未得到重视。ED就诊的PA很大比例上为那些使用医疗补助以及未保险的人群。ACA的通过并未减少ED就诊的PA
