后天性脑损伤后的认知交流障碍会对一个人参与社区、社会、职业以及学术损伤前角色和责任能力产生重大影响。本文主要针对后天性脑损伤相关的认知功能障碍的认知康复治疗提供指导建议。美国言语-语言-听力协会（ASHA）与一个多学科专家小组一起，根据对1980年至2020年期间发表的112项研究的系统回顾和荟萃分析，为管理与获得性脑损伤（ABI）相关的认知功能障碍制定了循证临床实践建议。这个以证据为基础的临床实践指南是一个 ASHA的官方声明，为非退行性ABI的成年人提供认知康复的建议，包括脑外伤（TBI）、中风和肿瘤等诊断。临床医生必须根据专业技能、知识和独特的情况以及个别病人及其护理人员的偏好来确定该指南及其建议的适用性。
