越来越多的普通人群在进入老年后仍患有严重的慢性疾病、多种疾病和残疾。虚弱前状态和虚弱综合征的发病率随着年龄的增长而成倍增加，并与更大的发病率、残疾、住院、机构、死亡率和医疗保健资源的使用有关。虚弱是一个全球性的问题，因此早期识别、评估和治疗以防止从功能衰退到残疾和死亡的一系列事件，是老年医学和普通医学的挑战之一。心律失常在年龄增长、慢性疾病和身体虚弱时很常见，包括广泛的节律和传导异常。然而，目前还没有专门针对老年人和体弱者的心律失常管理的系统研究或建议，许多有效的抗心律失常治疗方法在这些患者中的应用仍然是最慢的。这份欧洲心律协会（EHRA）的共识文件重点关注虚弱的生物学特性、常见的合并症和评估虚弱的方法，针对心律失常和传导性疾病的具体问题，为虚弱综合征患者的心律失常管理提供证据基础建议，并指出知识差距和未来研究方向。
