在需要有创机械通气的患者中，呼吸机相关肺炎(VAP)是最常见的获得性感染之一。VAP的发生与机械通气时间和ICU住院时间延长有关。

在需要有创机械通气的患者中，呼吸机相关肺炎(VAP)是最常见的获得性感染之一。根据环境和诊断标准的不同，报告的发病率差异很大，从5%到40%不等。VAP的发生与机械通气时间和ICU住院时间延长有关。目前存在许多关于预防措施对VAP发生率的影响研究，对于如何预防VAP的许多假设解释也正在受到挑战。

尽管进行了大量研究，VAP仍然是ICU获得性感染中最常见的一种，并与死亡率的增加有关。

目前依旧需要进行大型随机试验，以确认多种预防策略相结合以改善患者的结果的可能。
