最近，一项刊登于国际杂志Nature Communications上的研究论文中，来自斯坦福大学等机构的研究人员通过研究开发了一种新药，该药物可以将心脏病发作引发的损伤降低到最低，该研究同时也揭示了一种新型的控制点来帮助控制心脏中心血管的生成，为开发治疗心脏病的新型疗法提供了新希望。

研究者Mark Mercola博士指出，我们发现名为RBPJ的蛋白作为一种主要的基因控制器来调节成体心脏的血管生长，RBPJ可以作为新血管生成的制动器，这样我们就能够设计出阻断RBPJ的新型药物来促进血管生长并且有效改善心脏病患者的预后情况。在美国每隔34秒就会有人心脏病发作，随后导致心肌功能的缺失，如果其影响范围较大就会降低心脏的泵送能力，进而引发患者呼吸困难，这种状况称之为心力衰竭，5年内心力衰竭至少会在四分之一的心脏病患者中发作。

心脏病患者机体中心肌死亡主要是因为缺氧，如果心肌有可替换的血液供给，其就会完整无损，而且心脏功能也不会缺失，因此很多研究者目前都在寻找方法来促进心脏中额外血管的生成。研究者表示，动物试验结果表明，心脏中拥有较多血管可以帮助降低因缺血性损伤引发的心脏损伤，但此前所进行的临床试验却并未成功；最有可能的原因就是相关研究仅对单一生长因子进行了评估，但实际上构建血管需要多种因子相互协调的活性，本文研究结果表明，RBPJ蛋白可以控制这些因子的产生以应对心脏对氧气的需求。

研究者Diaz-Trelles博士说道，我们利用缺失RBPJ的小鼠进行研究表明，RBPJ蛋白在心肌血管生成过程中扮演着重要角色，实际上该蛋白可以扮演一种主要的控制器，来抑制制造新血管所需的基因的表达；值得注意的是，移除心肌中RBPJ蛋白并不会引发副作用；反而没有该蛋白的小鼠依然可以使得心脏保持结构和功能完整。

RBPJ蛋白或许可以作为一种新型的治疗靶点，本文研究表明，阻断该蛋白或可帮助使得有心脏病风险的患者受益，当然该蛋白同样也与其它疾病相关，抑制RBPJ的功能往往被用来治疗外周动脉疾病，而激活RBPJ的分子或可通过抑制肿瘤血管的生成来抑制癌症进展。
