高强度聚焦超声(HIFU)是一种治疗肿瘤的突破性技术。这种非侵入性靶向治疗的原则,就好像通过透镜聚焦的阳光一样,使用一个像凸透镜的超声换能器将超声波聚到一个小的焦点地区。

在《应用物理》上发表的文章中,中国多机构研究小组已经开发了一种半封闭,球形空腔传感器作为HIFU的潜在应用。HIFU可以通过超声波换能器,聚焦超声能量到一个焦点地区,将电信号转换成声波,把肿瘤内温度提高到超过65摄氏度,杀死细胞,并保证不破坏周围组织。这个治疗精度依赖于超声波转换器生成的焦点区域的大小和强度。

球形空腔传感器生成的聚焦区域大小为毫米级波长的50%到70%,更高的强度可以显着提高HIFU对癌症治疗的目标。

“由传统球面凹传感器生成的聚焦区域并不能满足更加复杂的治疗,为了超声能量发挥最大限度的作用,我们设计了这种新的超声换能器。”研究小组负责人称。传统的声学模拟方法通常是基于波动方程的数值解。这些方法可以提供声场的近似模拟,但不包含物理流动细节,不能轻易地处理复杂的几何结构的边界。“我们正在努力改善高压下的测量精准度。”

潜在的应用并不局限于HIFU治疗,它也为模拟复杂的声学领域提供了全新又具潜力的新工具。
