RSNA:关注留守儿童!缺乏亲生父母的照顾可影响孩子的大脑发育

来自中国的研究人员发现,长时间与父母分离的孩子的大脑灰质的体积较大,该研究发现已于11月30日举行的北美放射学会年会(RSNA)上展示。

世界各地由于政治动荡,经济或其他原因,父母有时会被迫离开家庭数月或数年,而将自己的孩子留在家中。

在中国,很多父母会离开孩子去异地务工以获得更高的收入。研究人员希望研究生物学父母离开孩子6个月以上如何影响数百万留守儿童大脑的发育。

“我们想研究这些留守儿童的大脑结构,”该研究作者YuanXiao说道,“既往研究表明,父母的照顾可直接影响其后代的大脑发育。然而,大多数的研究存在严重的社会不公,如孤儿。父母离开去异地工作时,照顾孩子的任务便落在了其亲属身上。”

本研究中,Su Lui教授及其同事对38名留守儿童(女孩和男孩,年龄7-13岁)进行了MRI检查,对照组为30名与父母生活在一起的儿童(女孩和男孩,年龄7-14岁)。研究人员比较了两组儿童大脑灰质的体积,并测量了每位参与者的智商以评估其认知功能。

结果发现,与和父母在一起的儿童相比,留守儿童的多个脑区,尤其是情感大脑电路中的灰质体积较大。留守儿童的平均智商得分与对照组儿童无明显差异,但是与记忆编码和检索有关的脑区的灰质体积则与智商得分呈负相关。

较大的灰质体积可能反映了大脑发育欠成熟,灰质体积和智商得分之间呈负相关表明,缺乏父母的照顾可能会延缓孩子的大脑发育。

最后,YuanXiao说道:“我们的研究首次表明,缺乏亲生父母的照顾会改变留守儿童的大脑发育轨迹。需要开展公共卫生工作以为留守儿童提供额外的智力和情感上的支持。”
