Bio Letter：打哈欠时间越久的人越聪明？

研究者们发现打哈欠的时间长度能够指示大脑的容量以及神经元的数量，这进一步能够解释为什么人类打哈欠的时间会长于其它哺乳动物。

"重要的是，体型或与打哈欠有关的身体解剖结构（例如头盖骨或下颌骨的大小）并不是决定这一效应的因素。因为大猩猩、骆驼、马、狮子、海象以及非洲象等大型动物其打哈欠的时间短于人类"，来自纽约州立大学的研究者们说道。

研究者们筛查了"Youtube"网站上各种不同动物打哈欠的视频资料，他们最终收集到了来自24个不同类群，177个动物的205次打哈欠的视频结果。

他们发现，其中小鼠打哈欠的时间最短，平均0.8秒，而人类的打哈欠时间最久，为6.5秒，骆驼排第二位，狗排第三位。

通过记录所有打哈欠的次数，研究者们比较了打哈欠时间不同的物种，他们发现体型的大小与打哈欠的时间之间并没有明显的联系。

而对比发现，与打哈欠时间关系明显的是大脑的体积，这一现象使得研究者们提出了一开始的那个假设。

尽管绝大部分动物都有打哈欠的行为，但科学家们并不了解其中的机制。一些人认为打哈欠表明我们比较困倦，需要更多的氧气唤醒机体，而一些证据表明睡眠时间与我们打哈欠的次数之间并没有绝对的联系。

2007年，Andrew Gallup提出：打哈欠这一行为是将大脑进行降温的机制，这一假说在2014年得到了同行的支持。

而最近这项研究结果表明打哈气的时间与大脑的体积之间存在相关性，则进一步验证了Andrew Gallup的说法。由于大脑越大，进行降温所需的时间也就越久，因而我们打哈欠的时间就会越长。

但这并不能表明水打哈欠的时间越长就越聪明，这一规则只在不同物种中可以适用。
