此项研究对来自于ROMICAT I试验的368例中危心血管疾病患者进行了分析，并排除了实际伴有临床急性冠脉综合征以及非40～75岁的患者。研究者依据两项指南对纳入最终分析的252例患者是否适用他汀类治疗进行了评估，同时确定了基于冠脉CT血管造影的冠脉疾病严重度。

结果显示，受试者平均LDL-C水平为116 mg/dL，41%伴有高血压。与2004年指南相比，2013年指南确定了更多他汀类治疗适宜患者(P<0.0001)，并且闭塞性冠脉疾病患者依据新指南适宜接受他汀类治疗的相对可能性最大。依据新指南更多冠脉疾病患者升级至他汀类治疗，但仍分别约有20%和40%的闭塞性和非闭塞性冠脉疾病患者未被确认适宜他汀类治疗。
