代谢组学之父尼克尔森：中国仅有基因组研究是不够的

近日，全球代谢组学之父Jeremy K. Nicholson教授在上海交通大学医学院附属瑞金医院举办的研讨会上，与中国科学家共同探讨“代谢表型研究与健康和医疗的全新未来”。

Nicholson在研讨会上发表的观点独具亮点。从代谢组学研究出发，他特别提到了快速蒸发电离质谱技术（REIMS）在临床诊断中的应用。通过这项化学活性工具，外科医生有望在手术中实现实时诊断，从而把肿瘤切除干净。这项技术概念在临床上被亲切地称为“智能刀”。

对中国的人类基因组项目，Nicholson认为，一方面，中国启动了最大的人类基因组项目；另一方面，仅有基因组的研究是不够的。表型组学是解读基因组非常必要的学科。到目前为止，中国的基因组项目中已获得了一些有关生理特点、表型特点的描述，现在所缺少的数据正是代谢表型相关的一些数据。他认为，补足这部分缺失的数据是中国的人类表型组项目下一步的重要工作之一。

Nicholson是代谢组学领域的先驱和国际顶尖科学家，现任英国帝国理工学院表型组研究中心负责人、外科与癌症部主管、消化与超导健康研究中心主任。他于1999年首次提出了代谢组学的定义，在《自然》杂志等学术刊物上发表论文500多篇。2013年Nicholson教授被聘为中国科学院“爱因斯坦讲席教授”。

据悉，Nicholson教授此前还在北京参加了中科院组织的香山科学会议，并作了《人类表型研究》相关主题报告。
