共收集59位病人，其中53位符合居家医院的收住条件。26位患者随机分配为居家照护，27位为医院照护，发现治疗失败率、恢复时间和恶化后3个月内死亡率在两组间没有显著的差异。居家医院的失败率与神经肌肉疾病的类型相关，对肌萎缩性脊髓侧索硬化症病人居家医院的失败率比值比是17。居家照护病人的总费用和每天的直接费用明显低于住院照护病人。

结论：居家医院对于神经肌肉疾病并发呼吸道感染的病人是一个很好的选择。

居家医院可以提供适当的照护并对临床预后没有不良影响，而且深受欢迎。在这些研究中，作者发现居家医院对神经肌肉疾病并发呼吸道感染的病人是一个很好的选择。这种模式对于其他疾病也可能有潜在的好处。
