在最新发表于《Addiction》期刊的研究中，研究人员评估了一种测量电子烟尼古丁递送量的新方法。研究发现，使用"cartomizers（烟弹+雾化器）"的第一代电子烟，在尼古丁递送方面始终低于使用"atomizers（烟油雾化器）"的后一代电子烟。后一代电子烟能够蒸发重复性容器中的液体。

烟油雾化器所递送尼古丁的浓度类似于尼古丁吸入器和烟草香烟，而且在医用喷雾器的可接受限值内。

"由于电子烟尼古丁递送的浓度是欧盟烟草产品指令（EU Tobacco Products Directive）的一项要求，我相信这项研究中提出的协议是可行和可靠的，并且能够用于监管目的"该研究领导作者Konstantinos Farsalinos博士说，"此外，这项研究提供的证据表明，新一代电子烟产品能够更好地履行职责，可能更有效地替代烟草香烟。"
