人类健康很多与机体产生及利用能源的方式有关。随着细胞衰老,产能能力逐渐减弱。科学家一直怀疑,机体能量供应链稳定性减弱是驱动衰老过程的关键。

随着年龄增长,能量代谢过程中的一个关键成分烟酰胺腺嘌呤二核苷酸(NAD)水平逐渐下降。之前研究表明,衰老的小鼠多种组织中NAD水平都出现下降。但研究显示直接给予小鼠NAD并不能有效缓解衰老,因此,研究人员找到了NAD供应链上游的化合物NMN。

NMN在多种多种食物中都天然存在,包括西兰花、卷心菜等。新研究表明,NMN的吸收非常迅速。小鼠摄取溶解NMN的饮用水后,3分钟内血液中就能检测到NMN。二在多个组织中,血液中的NMN都快速转化成了NAD。

为了确定NMN的长期效应。研究人员给一组小鼠高剂量的NMN饮用水,另一组接受较低剂量NMN饮用水,第三组饮用普通水作为对照。结果发现,补充NMN对机体产生了诸多有益影响,包括骨骼肌、肝功能、骨密度等。但这些益处只在年龄较大的小鼠中有明显作用。对年轻小鼠没有显著作用,这可能是因为年轻的小鼠自身能够产生足量的NMN。研究人员认为,伴随着衰老的炎症增加可能削弱了机体产生NMN的能力,继而引起NAD减少。
