据《印度时报》10月16日报道，印度塔塔纪念医院一个11人的医生团队近日获得一项学术胜利，一项有关如何降低脑肿瘤放射疗法副作用的研究取得成果。

据报道，该团队对治疗脑肿瘤采用的较新的辐射技术的优点进行了为期11年的研究工作，一家著名的国际期刊在15日发表了该研究成果。美国医学会(AMA)下属的JAMA肿瘤学杂志称赞其为“罕见且值得称赞的随机试验”。

据报道，由神经辐射专家拉卡什?杰拉利(RakeshJalali)博士领导的塔塔纪念医院的医生表示，与常规方法相比，立体放射疗法可以更好地保留某些智商和激素功能。

杰拉利博士说：“我们的研究现在可以作为测试其他高精度辐射技术(如质子治疗)的模板，质子疗法技术很快将被引入到印度。”

据报道，包括大脑在内的中枢神经系统肿瘤占所有恶性肿瘤的约2%。在印度，预计有5万人患神经系统肿瘤，其中有2500名儿童患有脑肿瘤。

杰拉利博士表示，许多患者，特别是儿童，已被治愈，但他们可能有长期的残疾。从2001年开始该团队就研究这种副作用。大约有200名3到25岁年龄组患者参加了研究，并被分为两组：一组接受常规辐射，而另一组接受立体放射疗法。据报道，这些患者患有良性或低级别的脑肿瘤，并于2001至2011年期间在塔塔纪念医院在接受治疗。
