希尔教授解释说,虽然目前的牙齿填充物包括惰性材料,但新的生物活性玻璃复合材料的数据显示,它能与提供矿物质的人体部位交互,这些人体部位提供的矿物质能取代因蛀牙而失去的矿物质。

 

“我们的科学家和牙医在伦敦大学玛丽皇后学院用我们的新材料代替了惰性牙齿填充材料。该生物活性玻璃复合物不仅能再矿化部分腐烂的牙齿,还能造成碱性环境,从而阻止最初导致牙齿损坏的细菌。

 

“该新的生物活性玻璃复合物还能以牙齿矿物质填充牙沟,从而防止口腔细菌。口腔细菌通过自我繁殖引起蛀牙。美国的研究表明,生物活性玻璃填料将有可能延长填料的使用寿命,减缓二次蛀牙。因为其细菌穿透深度要显著小于惰性填料。”
