研究人员发现,除了NLRP12之外,其他的炎性体mRNA水平的表达被异常调节。另外,和它们临近的良性组织比较,NLRP12炎性体感应子的免疫染色密度在恶性前列腺癌中显著性更高。与之相反,NLRP3在前列腺组织中的免疫染色是异质性的。炎性体复合物蛋白ASC(细胞凋亡相关的类颗粒状蛋白且包含一个CARD)和前细胞凋亡蛋白酶-1,以及它的下游靶标IL-1β和EL-18被局限于侵入性前列腺癌细胞中。最后,研究人员指出,这些数据表明,NLRP12表达的增加与前列腺癌相关,并且支持了NLRP12炎性体复合物可调节炎症细胞因子,促进了炎症在前列腺癌中角色的理解。
